![]() This doesn't feel like when I play several Souls-like games and can still see new mechanics and settings, this is like if Cuphead's release was saddled by a well-made free clone in the app store. It's like in order to feel like they could make this game, they studied every gameplay detail as if it was gospel to make a run and gun shooter with directional shooting this one way. Why do bosses still lightly flash white when they're hit? Why do the characters have to roll when they jump? And why do they have to whip out their wands for every single projectile they fire individually like the snappy finger guns Cuphead does? Why was it so important to do it exactly the same way? The thing that actually bugs me is how much they copied even the small details. And to see another game disrespect that and tries to play it off as their own makes me upset. I think mostly this bothers me because cuphead took a HUGE risk aesthetically and put in so much sacrifice to make it work right, and the game looks like nothing we've seen before. It's funny that chinese knockoff games get so much deserved hate for being creatively and morally bankrupt, but for this game i'm seeing a lot of 'don't you want more cuphead?' 'this happens all the time!'. Even if its heavily inspired by cuphead, the game shouldn't be confused as the original at a glance, but it looks like they could all be from the same game. But this is pretty blatant that it would be a stretch for me to call this innocent. Yes influences happen, yes, devs have been building off of other games forever. I don't know if theres a lot of enchanted portals devs in here, or if theres just a lot of people who don't come from a creative background, but this is very clearly ripping off cuphead. Last note: before you complain, how about you wait for the game to come out and play it yourself, or maybe not play it and stop whining about a small game.īut uh yeah sorry if that sounded rude or anything idk I'm awful at socializing so uh yeah sorry It's also pretty obvious the studio behind Enchanted Portals is doing their own thing with their game. Its also pretty hard to make a game, especially if you dont have a huge budget or if you have a tight deadline, also I highly doubt you could make anything visually better, just saying. Also, there's so little ways to make a 2d shooter game look, also Cuphead doesn't own the 2d shooter style either, lol. Also FYI, Cuphead doesn't own the 1930s cartoon style, and anyone is allowed to get inspiration from that style. In my opinion, the story is almost nothing a like. Also, what do you mean the concept is ripped off? Do you mean the story? Cupheads story is about 2 brothers trying to find contracts for the devil so he doesn't take their souls, and Enchanted Portals concept is about 2 kids (I assume kids) finding a magic book and opening a portal that forces them to fight forces much more powerful then the. Pretty sure the animation was made by one person (someone here said that, so i cant necessary fact check it), and the studio is from Spain, so they wouldn't have the same amount of budgeting as American studios could have. One question I do have for people that are absolutely against this, do you not want to ever have another cuphead? For instance in the top frame the shark pirates with the dead fish flag, or in the bottom with the mum cow and alien dad (which I’m guessing is a reference to the common theme of abducted cows). While it is very clear how closely it resembles cuphead (the mechanics, the art style, the audio), when I take a closer look there are smaller details where you can see more thought was given. And when it comes to inspiration some people are purists, wanting to make something as close to the original, while others may take a lot more creative freedom in how they use that inspiration. I think the motive is important, while it doesn’t really bother me either way, but if it’s from the perspective of being a fan and are just inspired by it then I’m more supportive of it. Sometimes it’s done purely from the perspective of trying to cash in on the former game’s success, other times it’s because they’re a fan of the series and are inspired by it. This happens to every game that is successful, sometimes it’s just a blatant asset flip while other times it’s a more subtle inspiration.
